Fit Bantams is a weight management programme, supporting anyone aged 35 - 65 with a BMI of 28+, to lead a healthier lifestyle through an individually targeted approach. Obesity affects 40% of the UK population, and coronary heart disease, cancer, heart disease and COPD are a few conditions which may be triggered as a result of obesity.
Currently, across Bradford, hypertension, coronary heart disease and diabetes rates are above the national average. Fit Bantams aims to turn this around, and support people into fitness. We have received funding from the EFL to deliver Fit Bantams over a 3-year period at Valley Parade.
Fit Bantams shows individuals how to:
Improve eating habits by reducing portion sizes, swapping fatty and sugary foods for fruit, vegetables and high fibre foods.
Achieve at least 45 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most days of the week.
Participants will receive weekly exercise sessions at the club for 12 weeks., and follow a personal pedometer based walking programme that encourages them to fit physical activity in to their day to day life.
Tried-and-tested behaviour changes, and techniques, will help participants become more active and improve their diet. These include regular self-monitoring of their weight and pedometer step counts, as well as SMART goals to make changes that can be sustained long-term.
