The Bradford City FC Community Foundation, the official charity of Bradford City AFC, has teamed up with Bertha’s Legacy, an organisation dedicated to ending gender-based violence and inequality.

The Foundation and Bertha’s Legacy have worked together to create a new campaign, entitled ‘Clock It. Call It. Cut It.’, aimed at engaging and educating young people on the many forms abusive relationships can take.

The launch comes as part of the Foundation and Bertha’s Legacy’s support for UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism campaign. This year’s #NoExcuses campaign centres on combating the harassment, abuse and control millions of women and girls face in online spaces.

Kathryn Saunderson-O’Hare, Head of Partnerships and Business Development at the Bradford City FC Community Foundation, said: “We are proud to be working with Bertha’s Legacy on this campaign, to continue and combine our efforts in addressing gender-based violence and domestic abuse. Working with organisations like Bertha’s Legacy, who do fantastic work across the country, and who we can reply upon as experts in their field, means that we can really connect with our audience here in Bradford and the wider district, and facilitate conversations and change behaviours when it comes to abusive, controlling and violent behaviour.”

The campaign has launched with a video taking viewers through a text-based conversation. The video examines controlling behaviours, and how controlling and abusive behaviours can start small before leading to ongoing issues in relationships.

Bertha’s Legacy was founded by Sithembile Chigwada and Zanele Bey, and has been supporting marginalised women who are victims of gender-based violence and domestic abuse since 2021.

Zanele Bey, Bertha’s Legacy co-founder, said: “We are honoured to join forces with Bradford City FC Community Foundation to strengthen efforts to prevent gender-based violence. Our work will ensure that young people are not only included but empowered, while also inviting parents, supporters, and the wider community to recognise their role in prevention. Together, we’re building a culture where respect and safety are shared responsibilities.”

The video and wider campaign shall signpost viewers to Bertha’s Legacy’s support service, which supports women affected by gender-based violence and domestic abuse.
