Bradford City FC Community Foundation partners with Capital of Cycling to promote sustainable travel

Bradford City FC Community Foundation, alongside Bradford City AFC, has partnered with Bradford Capital of Cycling to encourage greener travel across the city.

The Foundation launched its Greener Bantams Travel Hub, supported by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, in April this year. The Hub aims to make travel around the city, and to and from Mbanq Valley Parade, more accessible, affordable, and sustainable. 

Capital of Cycling, which works with a range of community partners and groups in providing bikes, delivering public engagement events and workshops in the district, has now partnered the Foundation and the club to promote cycling in the city.

Lizzie Saunderson-Trowell, Bradford City FC Community Foundation CEO, said: “We are excited to be partnering with Capital of Cycling to enhance our offer within the Greener Bantams Travel Hub. We’re looking forward to the new season, and to celebrating the many ways in which people get along to Mbanq Valley Parade in a sustainable way. We’re very pleased to have Capital of Cycling onboard, and to have the chance to introduce their fantastic work in promoting and creating active travel opportunities across our city. Cycling is a key way in which people can get active when traveling, and we look forward to seeing the results of this partnership, and the impact it will have for our fans, our community, and the wider Bradford network.”

The Greener Bantams Travel Hub encourages community members and City matchgoers alike to find environmentally friendly ways of getting about. Capital of Cycling will, as a result of this new partnership, encourage and promote cycling as a means of getting to and from Mbanq Valley Parade, and around the district.

Anthony Thomson, a director at Capital of Cycling, said: “Capital of Cycling is very excited to be working in partnership with the Bradford City FC Community Foundation and Bradford City AFC to help grow a culture of cycling in Bradford and promote the rich heritage of cycling opportunities on Bradford’s doorstep, from quieter country lanes and greenways to mountain bike trails.

We’re proud to be working with a Foundation and a club which recognises its influence and has demonstrated commitment, leadership and innovation in reducing carbon emissions, including winning the English Football League’s Environmental Award. With the largest single movement of people in the city being on match days, Capital of Cycling is keen to work alongside the Bantams and support fans in accessing healthier and greener options for match day travel.”

The Foundation recently hosted the Greener Together Sustainability Summit, which invited local organisations and stakeholders to discuss how they can best support and deliver sustainable practices in the district.

Bradford City AFC and the Foundation have launched numerous environmental and climate action projects as part of the Greener Bantams initiative. Their efforts have been recognised with the club winning the EFL Environmental Award at this year’s EFL Awards.
